From Coffee & Customer Service to Code as Craft!
I enjoy making things for people. My first paying job was a café staff member for Borders Bookstore (before the café became Seattle's Best). I mention this because, I view my work on the Web as both craft and service. It was in 2007 that I started exploring how I could use my visual creativity, graphic design, to make things for people like posters, signs, and logos. But as I continued producing and making small brands, in the back of my mind I already knew that I wanted to end up working on the Web. In 2010, I got my chance to build Wordpress sites for my employer and his clients. This is when I knew I could use my creativity with open source web technologies to make even more useful things for people. Since then, I have been building my skills as a programmer and overall digital professional. I've contributed to nearly every phase of a digital project from end to end. Now, as a Web journeyman, my aim is to become an expert at both frontend and backend web development.
